October just flew by, I can’t believe we’re already in November! The days are starting to blend into one another again, thankfully I’ve taken to participating in photo challenges on Instagram so I can kind of keep track of the days that way.
Welp… COVID is still here. Thankfully in Ontario the cases are significantly less than those south of me (Looking at you USA). My region in Ontario is seeing a rise in cases, I think it’s averaging around 300-400 cases per day which means we’re getting stricter restrictions. This doesn’t bother me too much as I don’t go out frequently. I only go to the grocery store on occasion, my local bookstore, and Michaels (a craft store). I’ve accepted this as the ‘new normal’ and try not to let it get to me. It also helps that it’s my dad, my cat and I in my house at the moment. My sister and her boyfriend went to Ottawa for two weeks (where he’s from), so she’ll be coming back via the train next week sometime. The quiet has been really nice!
I’ve been fighting a reading slump; I think I just need to take a day and read. I have a lot of books that I’ve started, but I can’t seem to finish them! It’s like I lose interest half-way through, or I’ll get caught up in the news. I started two new books, and so far I’m liking them! I’ve realized that if reading is important to me, then I need to schedule time in my day to actually read!
My exciting piece of news from October is that I was paired with a mentor whose working in the publishing field! We met at the beginning of October for the first time and I already feel more confident in obtaining a job in the field. He’s been looking over my cover letters, and while I haven’t landed a job yet, with his help I feel more confident that I’ll be hired somewhere. We met again at the beginning of November and he helped me write some cover letters for internships that become available. I need to think of something to discuss at our next meeting the first week of December. Hopefully it will be related to interviews? If you have any suggestions, I’m open to them! I’m really excited about this mentorship and I can’t wait to hear all the advice and tips he has to offer me.
I joined a book club, as mentioned in the Book Club Discussion post which will be up soon. This was new for me, I’ve never joined a book club but it’s a lot of fun, and I’m hoping that it will get me out of this awful reading slump!
I’ve started to learn to make candles, I bought a candle making kit from Michaels and I’m excited to make my own! I have plans on visiting an actual candle store where I can buy different waxes and fragrances this weekend.
That’s all for now! I’ll be posting the Book Club Discussion for September soon. I need to get started on the October one which will probably be up next week.
See you on the next post!
