My Thoughts

When you hear the name Stephen King what does your mind immediately jump to? Maybe you think of horror, Carrier, IT, The Shining, “Classic” Horror; everything that this book is not. This novella didn’t really do much for me, it felt like a nice story with nothing horrific that shocked me. It was well written with some beautiful words and imagery, some great characters, despite this it still fell flat.

I can honestly say that I have no idea how to even review/critique this book as nothing stood out to me that makes me want to further explore topics in this novella. If anything this may have turned me off of Stephen King for a while. Maybe I’ll read some other horror novels then gradually make my way back to King.

Maybe some passionate Stephen King fans will enjoy this, but as someone who’s barely read a full novel by King, this book is a pass. I’m just glad that I didn’t pay full price for this novella.

  1. I didn’t like this one much either. I didn’t have any problem with it not being ‘traditional’ horror (or horror at all, really;) I just thought it was forgettable and lame. I’ve barely read anything by Stephen King but I thought ‘On Writing’ was terrific. 🙂

    1. I read about half of Firestarter, then I moved and lost where I was in the book. I felt so disappointed by it, there was nothing that I felt stood out to me as I’m thinking back on it now. I will have to give ‘On Writing’ a try now!
